I feel dumb for feeling like I’m missing the joke in panel 6 (at least I think I don’t?), and would instead switch topics and ask if the story they’re talking about the end of the page is her or not….but I’m also sort’ve expecting that to get answered soon anyway….

  It seems like a reference to a religious story about a character named Phineas, rather than our Phin herself.

  It’s been a GOOD minute since it was brought up, and it was sort of just implied rather than directly stated, but Phineas chose her own name.

    Oh, all I remembered was him asking Jo if she chose it or not. But she did. Guessing the name was picked in reference to whatever story is getting referenced in the page, then.

Ulrich in Panel 8: that classic moment when the party face realizes the barbarian is going full rage in the negotiations and it’s too late to salvage them, so might as well just sit back and enjoy the ensuing trainwreck.

My previous statement on the last page was being surprised how civil old man churchy here was being about this, and he’s starting to give me more bad vibes now, but i appreciate Phineas taking zero shits on this one.

  He’s not really being civil, per se, as resorting to an attitude you see a lot in certain areas of the USA that are heavily “religious”. I heard a very apt name for it recently: Church Mean, and it is what it sounds like. The old cult leader here seems like an old hand at it.

Its interesting putting Phineas (whose middle name may as well be compassion) against someone who claims to take care of people in the name of righteousness and yet so clearly fails at basic empathy/compassion

Yeah. Seriously don’t like this guy. He’s got that whole “religion as a weapon” thing going on. The moment he started insisting some stranded outsiders who clearly don’t share his beliefs had to attend their church services, he crossed the line. I like that Kidd is clearly not letting it slide.

Also, it’s been said before, but that reaction from Ulrich in panel 8 is absolutely PRICELESS!

Phineas was disowned then. It didn't make sense for her blood relations to think ~~Commanding~~ slitting her throat was for the best at age 8, then for these people who are supposed to care enough to offer an opinion to not get listed as her family, nor show up in a flashback.
