This explanation got a little lengthy haha, I’m sorry.
Usually these symbols don’t actually do anything on their own, when they’re written on the hands they’re like focus points for the user. They work kind of like wands do in most fiction; they’re not NECESSARY, but they make it a lot easier to channel the energy the way you want to.
Hazard’s aren’t actually inked on his palms like Phin’s are. The pattern that shows up here is a sort of old groove being backlit by his magic, the way instruments develop grooves in the specific way the player holds it. This basically means Hazard’s been doing his particular kind of magic for a long time.
Don’t worry, this stuff will get a more thorough explanation a little later in the story.
