I don’t know a lot, Jo only mentioned it a few times.
She said it’s sort of like commanding, it’s just. . . more,
It’s gentle.
Commanders can overpower other wills by force when we want to. We. . . break-
It’s just moving energy. Moving a body or a vessel.
Silverspeak can CHANGE a will. Kind of like uh, hypnosis, if it was like in the movies. You lead someone by the hand instead of dragging.

Ulrich:
. . . You commanded me in the mine. I couldn’t move, but you told me to and it was like my body reacted on its own.
You talked me all the way out of that passage.
You even moved stone with a word.

Phineas:
That’s another thing. Silverspeak needs a listener. Couldn’t start ordering rocks around I don’t think.

Ulrich:
All that heartache and you could have just made me do whatever you wanted?
Why not do it all the time?

Phineas:
Some do, I guess. It’d be hard though. Commanding tears you up after while.
And will is sacred, I think.
It’s everything a person is, you don’t mess with it without a good reason.

Have I ever said how much I love this comic? Because I really do like goshdang the dialogue, and the characters, and the setting, and everything.

Prompting the question of course, what happens when a commander orders a silverspeaker to do a thing, but the silverspeaker tells the commander to do another thing, who wins?

Also could this mean the person that fucked up Ulrich be a commander? phins dialog about commanders being able to mess with souls, and we know someone meticulously screwed up his spirt. Very possible there are other weird professions and skills that can psudeo-command or screw with souls

  The commander will usually win out! Side by side, commanding is more aggressive, more focused, and much harder to resist. Silverspeak takes more time and needs to be planned carefully, but the effect can last much longer than commanding, which lets go as soon as the commander stops. Commanding is a concentration spell hehe
  
  I like the page’s hand-holding analogy: commanding drags your screaming kid along behind you to the doctor’s office whether or not they want to go or not, silverspeak can stop the tantrum and convince them it was their idea to go to the doctor in the first place. Which is potentially much more useful, but you have to be good enough at it to get them to listen to you enough for it to work.

  Also, willpower and personal autonomy are core themes for this comic, so yes! Definitely gonna be stumbling across new and awful methods of fucking around with souls as we go on.

So in other words, she only ordered him around because he had a hard time keeping his legs up himself. (And get him out of that hole.)

The glasses look very interesting on Ulrich. I think it’s mostly the blue tinting.

(Also, I just saw the Archive icon for this arc looks like Kairos already…which seems kinda quick, actually….also, is that another radio tower in the center? Only two so far, but curious if that’s supposed to be a theme, somehow, for whatever reason….(which seems like an odd thing to ask about but ya’know sometimes people write odd stuff….(looking at you muppet Phin holding the Patreon sign …heh.)))

  I’ll go ahead and say we’re not in Kairos yet! Some of the cities just look a little similar from the outside, the way some cities in our world don’t look too different from each other haha. Kairos is a long ways off.

Phin is a good.
I mean, she’s right, and that’s probably far and away the scariest power commanders have, it really makes more sense of why people might hate/fear them, someone who can take your own will away from you could be a terrible thing indeed.

It’s good to know Ulrich might have something more than luck and a pair of guns on his side though.
