Let’s do a headcount….
Phin: A Commander who can just order her own body to fix itself faster. (And was just slightly smoldering from trying to absorb the burn off of the crashing ship. Slightly.)
Agatha: Robot/android/whatever the PC term is these days. Mechanically based, and so long as memory is intact, reassembly should always be plausible. (Not to mention at your previous pit stop you watched her take apart a tournament mecha that probably would’ve gone through tanks like kids go through candy.)
Ulrich: More tricks up his sleeves than some entire towns have sleeves, but also the least likely to survive critical damage.
In other words….bruh you’re literally the least tanky of the group just let someone else crawl around the crashed ship. (I’m sure Agatha can just reattach the arm without much difficulty. I could ask why you haven’t taken the scissors out yet, but I’m just going to assume they’re still there in case they’re blocking an artery or something and you’re just trying to not bleed everywhere.)
Such a rant at Ulrich’s silliness could never be complete, however, without asking “How, exactly, are you planning to sew stitches in your back?” I mean that looks like a spot I’d have a hard enough time reaching, let alone fine details (especially needlework).

Ulrich’s got vibes of Deep Space Nine’s Garrak here. Wonderfully paranoid man, tinker, tailor, soldier…

hello I still haven’t got around to DS9 but I read Garak’s wikipedia article just now and this comparison is delightful, bless u,
Carcharadon
Garak is The Best and it’s a testament to the show’s writing and cast that he blends in rather than dominates. He still steals many of the scenes he’s in though, and he and Ulrich would get on like a wildfire overtaking a fireworks factory.

heee this comment made me smile alksdjf
SO I did a fair amount of research before I decided to skewer Ulrich, mostly to make sure I could have him plausibly be able to stand around and have this whole scene, and one of the things I learned is if you ever get stabbed like this you shouldn’t take it out until you’re ready to immediately deal with it (so, at the hospital most likely). As long as you haven’t punctured a lung or something vital, the item is probably keeping the bleeding down and as soon as you take it out THEN you have to deal with a gushing wound.
Another fun fact: removing the object retraumatizes the area, so given that he didn’t seem to register it the first time, pulling it out is going to hurt a lot worse.

Forgive me, but I’m gonna geek out a bit here.
So glad you researched that! As a former EMT, I was literally about to yell at Phin for trying to just YANK the darn object out. You never, EVER remove an object that’s impaling someone UNLESS you suspect it is causing inhibition of vital functions (basically the cardiovascular system), and then ONLY remove it if you actually have a way to treat the wound immediately. Nine out of ten times the safest bet is to leave the object inside someone and wait for a medical professional with proper treatment methods and equipment to safely remove the object and treat the wound.
Since you also did a limb amputation (albeit with a robot so this really doesn’t matter at the moment), I’ll say that for most amputations it is common practice to attempt to find the severed body part and store it on ice. Many times it can be re-attached through surgical procedures, provided it hasn’t experienced extensive cell death (which the cryo-storage will drastically mitigate). You don’t necessarily want to FREEZE the part, but definitely drop the temperature significantly to put the cells in a more dormant state.
In extreme cases with a critically-injured person, you can also put the entire body into a form of cryo-sleep by applying cold compresses to various strategic parts of the body to stimulate a natural built-in response from the body to go into a deep state of hibernation. This same phenomena occurs to people who “drown” in extremely cold water and can still be revived long after they should have experienced brain death.

oh neat! i’m glad my dodgy Anime Medical Logic checks out a little bit at least hee. That’s good to know about the amputation, frankly it’s only a matter of time until somebody loses something that’s a little more complicated to reattach.

Given that he didn’t register it the first time, anything at all is going to hurt a lot worse.
But just assuming it’s stopping bleeding somewhere seems a relatively safe practice, I guess. (For how safe Ulrich’s practices get…)
That still doesn’t explain how he thinks he’s going to be sowing his own back. (Seriously that would be major pain plus difficult to reach area. ….wait, he’s done that before, hasn’t he….almost asked what gives him the idea he can manage it and I’m just going to assume he’s done it before…)
