“….a village that’s only corporeal a couple months out of the year.”
That sounds like “literal ghost town”. And also like it could be very interesting to hear more about how that’s supposed to work. :O
“They get picked up by just about any kind of device”
Well, if you got picked up by theirs, don’t expect them to understand. After all….”We travel by child’s toy.” 😀

the good thing about working up to a bigger cast is we can go to weirder and weirder places! Things also get stranger as we get closer to kairos crossing, we’ll definitely get to explore some of the odder concepts that have been mentioned eventually.

“There might be more if they didn’t feel so alone”
They implying high suicide rates?

Yeah, unfortunately. But that line is also talking about how people who are different do often EXIST in surprising numbers in “backwards” places like small rural towns, they just don’t feel comfortable enough to be open about it since they feel like they’re the only ones. So what you end up with are a bunch of closeted people (queer, neurodivergent, atheist or whatever your deal is) who COULD be forming a support network for each other who stay feeling alienated, and the public in the places they live in stays feeling like an oppressively homogeneous entity. It feels too scary and useless to visibly be yourself, so nobody sees anyone else they can relate to, so nobody deviates from the norm, so nothing changes.
The South is a lot more diverse than people think, basically.
