This relatively simple page took a bit longer than it should have because I’ve been working hard on the next KC Special! It was supposed to come out last year but, you know, 2020 and the mental illness funtime pit lmao. But it’s nearly inked now, which for me means the rest shouldn’t be too painful; I’m real excited to finally finish the damn thing and get it out for y’all.

Poor Ulrich. Well, poor all of them, really. I do hope that over time they will be able tp help and support each other, though I feel it’ll be a long road.

The line bout ghosts makes me curious. I wonder about the nature of these occurrences. It’d be fun to see Phineas’ perspective I imagine. And to hear(?) it; I imagine Brokenspecter might be quite interesting to observe around now– or at least more interesting, since Brokenspecter is already interesting.

  YeaH to be honest I was a little worried this arc would get bogged down and be Not Fun because so much of it is dealing with grief and trauma like, as plot points, but folks seem to still be into it so maybe we’ve hung out with these guys long enough to earn some introspective scenes hehe.
  
  We’re gonna talk about ghosts in a minute! we also get a LOT of Phineas Perspective here in a couple chapters UR WISHES ARE GRANTED (Soon)

    And I’ll be honest, I personally would’ve been into this stuff even back at the start– such things not have effected me, but it’s still an important topic and all –, though I understand the hesitance.
    
    I certainly think you went about the construction of this comic the right way. The order in which you brought about events and topics certainly feels like a good way to address what you want to address to the largest group you can.

      I really appreciate that! I’ve said it before but I’d never actually written anything significant before I started KC, especially not something so long and complicated so most of the initial planning went around the construction in a meta sense lmao. The cast size increases one at a time and in a specific order partially so we can get comfy with the characters as individuals, but also so I can work my skills up over time to writing for so many regular characters, that sort of thing.
      
      I knew this arc was going to be comparatively calmer and more somber, which isn’t objectively a dealbreaker imo but it DOES get most of its tension from caring about the people on the pages, so I wouldn’t have come out the gate with it (and tbh I’ve improved a lot as a storyteller anyway, I wouldn’t have had the chops for this type of story seven years ago lol). but it means a lot that you think you would have enjoyed it still :3

I’m looking forward to finding out Ulrich’s full backstory and getting the guy some closure someday. For now I’d say he needs a hug but obviously he Does Not.

  I’m so so happy people find Ulrich interesting you have no idea haha. I promise we’ll get ALL UP IN Ulrich’s business and he’ll get some resolutions of one kind or another, nobody is looking forward to it more than i am lol

Ulrich is so so dear to me. His. Everything. Touch-averse, secretive, paranoid, melancholy, loving, righteous, playful, thoughtful. Everytime I learn a new piece of info I care for him just a bit more. Even when it’s like “oh no this guy is fucked up” I’m still like yeah but he’s still my favorite. (although to be honest, my favorite character just kinda switches between whoever in the crew is talking at the moment, but considering how much Ulrich Likes to talk, he is Frequently my favorite. Ha!)

  aaaa this is so nice to hear, it’s so reassuring that people like Ulrich at all tbh. I /personally/ am very much into anxious wet paper bag men but I’m never sure how much tolerance other folks have for them, it’s been a fun surprise that some people like him as much as I do
