Either Agatha is coming to some self realisation here or she’s just been flat lying.
Or Phin is so unstable she really can induce personality where it doesn’t exist, but I doubt it, Agatha’s caring for birds show’s she already has empathy, not something you can really have without sentience.

British Note: To be Agatha just insisted she can’t get drunk, which makes sense I suppose, but rather messes with the context 😛

  Something very weird is certainly happening here, that is for sure. It’s good to keep in mind though that Commanders ARE capable of of literally impressing there personality onto others, if not outright impose there will. While I may be biased here, the way our android friend keeps flipping back and forth from neutral speech patterns to more “human” ones whenever she is and directly addresses Phineas, I am inclined to believe him/her/it. More data is required before anything definitive can be said for sure…

    I’m tryin real hard not to respond too much to the comments today because these theories are cool and I don’t want to interfere with anybody’s, but a few folks have mentioned being unsure so I’ll take the opportunity to confirm Agatha is a girl! Readers have brought up that my characters tend to look a little androgynous, so if you’re confused it’s safe to just use whatever pronouns the other characters are using =)

        I’m glad! It’s not usually intentional, most of my characters just end up in the middle somewhere and I just roll with it haha

        our drawing prof has a hard time punching prelearned „male and female attributes“ out of our heads because you are just so used to see lots of eyelashes and curves and lack of thereof in media that you start drawing them in when they are not there 🙁 people like to just „decide whats male or female“ and then draw accordingly instead of just being free and drawing whatever the hecky the world deserves
        And you very much draw what the world needs 😀

I’m guessing that due to her age, she developed sentience beyond her original programming due to her years of interaction with humans. She is as much a person as anyone else but due to her model type, nobody will treat her as a person. This interaction with Phin is a much needed outlet for her emotional backlog so she doesn’t do something stupid to someone else who can’t take it.

That or Phin’s commanding is causing some massive glitches in her programming.
