It would be extremely unfortunate for me to spend my last hours in a church. Unless I was doing something extremely unfortunate TO that church. At least, as far as the church would be concerned. >.>
Chromoid
Sure is nice of her to offer the church’s doors to anyone who wants them, but to quote a certain surprisingly accurately-portrayed demon from a certain TV show:
“God is not here. This is an empty box. Your life’s work makes Him puke.”
Aria
Man I really gotta get around to watching Castlevania lmaooo

Seem like everyone’s lost the plot, just a bit (or maybe a lot).
There’s something interesting about Lillian in specific doing so however. She’s really contradicting everything about herself, and her community, in a way, it seems.
No one questions the prophet, not even those in the highest stations, yet she does. Women have no hold of the highest positions (though she pushed the buck on that one, to a degree), yet she takes the lead (so much so that she even slips up in front of her audience, taking command (and being questioned/overruled), before control is ceded to her). Save/uplift people, yet she condemns everyone, talks down… It’s like a façade slipping away
Things are rushed/falling apart enough that I do not doubt that the crowd, looking for some solace, will follow, but, given enough time to recover, I think that many might find the balance has been disjointed in such a way that it would not fit the same again. It would be very interesting to see how opinions develop as a result through the coming days.
…It’s just too bad they only have hours. Well, we’ll just have to see how they take the next jostle.
This is a very good point, Lillian taking charge: where are the brothers, Davis and Prosper? Why didn’t she call them too?
Aria
(Since it’s gonna be a hot second in real time before this very logical question gets answered, I’ll go ahead and mention there’s a reason they didn’t show up for this! Don’t worry y’all I didn’t forget about em hee)
I never doubted that!
I guess either they’re not aware of Lilian’s mobing the people of the caravan, or they’re busy at their own mysterious evil preparations to take care of the intruders. Or both.

I’m not going to assume that of them, though I could see why you might. And I wouldn’t be surprised.
Davis I could see if I thought he had the means to inconvenience them, but I don’t know, he seems like the kind who’s only weapons are his words… so unless there’s a “in case of commander, break glass” somewhere, I suspect plans aren’t really what he is up to.
As for Prosper? …Yeah, I could see it, but I could also see him playing detective in the background, maybe setting something off be accident, rather than purpose.
I think they may be more likely to accidentally, or by temperament, inconvenience, than have a master plan.
This brings up questions of parentage, gods, and fealty. Parents are owed obedience because they created life. They teach and nurture. Obeying them saves children from waste, pain, death, and sometimes worse. Children SHOULD listen to, obey and honor their parents.
But not all parents know the right things to say. Not all parents teach the right way to live, to thrive, or to be happy. There is also a point where a parent HAS to step back. Failure and pain have value. A parent’s protection becomes control at some point.
Now imagine creation of a world. A universe.
Those within would be ants in comparison. You could guide ants to burrow, where to eat, what to eat, where to live. The ants would not know the difference between the glass cage and the hillside, and never could.
But not all gods know the right things to say. Not all gods can teach perspective or knowledge, or meaning. They do not speak the same language. Their perspective is too broad.
The ant colony can live in the glass cage. But not if there are too many. You either make a new cage, or you kill the older ants. The ants will not know why. It is cruel. And it is only so the gods may watch the ants toil, live and die in a glass cage. It is cruelty.
We are about to see the ants dumped back onto the hillside. The ants will never know why. That is beyond them. But they will be free.
