Sorry this one took a minute, my arm was acting up last week but I’m doing better now!

Phineas’ bust seems to vary over the course of the story (decreasing?). Is this a matter of art style/evolution or is there some physical variation occurring in the story?

(Also please forgive me if I’ve asked that before)

  If you have I don’t remember it! No worries haha. I actually have a lot of thoughts about this that are probably way more than you were wanting, so the short answer is it’s art evolution and has nothing to do with the story (for now anyway)
  
  It’s probably a combination of a lot of things, mostly having to do with me rather than the plot. Her shape HAS changed quite a bit over time and I can’t say I won’t incorporate some sort of intentional deity-flavored physical changes into Phineas’ development at some point, but as of right now I think it’s just like. My own relationship with gender expression changing a lot over the last eight years? Her chest was definitely a lot more pronounced at the beginning of the comic because at the time I was really really worried about making SURE people knew she was a woman; it’s not a secret KC is partly my frustrated answer to the complete failure of the shounen genre to give a shit about anyone besides cishet men. I guess as a baby artist that meant emphasizing her curves, even though that’s sort of indicative of my own (at the time) warped view of gender and my own insecurities about my art more than anything. “Phineas is a boy’s name” is a meme now but I did hear from a LOT of readers back then who only twigged Phin was female because of her boobs lmao
  
  tbh it just doesn’t suit her body type either, which I must have started to realize as I got better at art and anatomy, but my own feelings about chests has changed a lot irl and that’s bound to bleed into my protagonist. My mom died pretty horrifically of breast cancer halfway through the first arc after dealing with it for nearly a decade, I’ve always had a lot of tangled up disordered thinking about my own because of that whole thing AND my christian upbringing, and I’m actually in the process of getting top surgery. I’m pan so like, I don’t have a Problem with breasts or drawing them obviously, and Phineas isn’t meant to be a self-insert or anything, but at some point I think some internal mechanisms of mine shifted and it was connected to Phineas too. sort of a hazard of writing such personal characters I guess!
  
  i HAVE been thinking about this exact thing quite a bit since I came out as agender last year, it’s not out of the question that Phineas’ gender or something might change as she gets more god-like. I have the cores of the characters, like, their driving forces planned out pretty meticulously, but I’ve tried to leave enough room for the way those things are expressed to grow and change over time because that’s how real humans work. Even I can’t say for sure exactly what all these characters will look like at the end of everything. hopefully if i’ve done my job right they’ll still feel cohesive even if their katamaris take on some funky shapes haha

    I’ll add that breasts have all sort of shapes, and some of them don’t show so much under a large tee-shirt. All the more if you don’t wear a bra. So, this evolution made me glad 😉

  Thanks, I am too!! The combination of crowd scenes in this chapter and trying to get the second Special finished is holding things up a little but I’m dying to get this shit underway lmao
