Jo wasn’t expecting the icy steamroller to her anger.
Now she’s feeling guilty.
I wonder just how special the child of an immortal star host(s) is…

So how old was she?

Wait can’t Jo figure out where he is? she sent Phineas to Last Chance, a star-stone mine, and Hazards been stealing star-stone so it’s logical to think if they met, it would be a location with vast amounts of star-stone. And I’m going to assume Last Chance is the closest star stone deposit or Jocasta would told Phineas about the another one.

hahaaa I was wondering how long it would be before someone brought this up. This does look pretty confusing rn so AS MUCH AS I DON’T LIKE DOING THIS I’m gonna talk some about the character motivations a little bit. Most of this does get discussed before the chapter’s over, so if you’d rather wait and see for yourself I’d stop reading here and wait for the rest of the story.
You’re right! That WOULD be the logical choice for those of us reading all this now, but Jo’s kind of in a weird spot. There was a line I ended up cutting where Jocasta mentions Phineas “only left home around six months ago,” and how that wasn’t enough time to get anything done OR make her way to Last Chance on foot like she was, but I needed to save some time and figured it was sort of lampshaded by the fact that there’s a huge timezone difference between where Jo is and where Hazard is. Phineas also refused to let Jocasta plan a route for her, and there’s a bit coming up in a few pages where Jocasta brings up the fact that Phineas is pretty much untrackable unless you go out of your way to do it, so Jo doesn’t keep tabs on her progress regularly. Basically, there’s an enormous area Phineas could be in between Jo’s shack and a point Jocasta hasn’t considered she could have made it to yet, and not a lot of time to look.
The last time she knew about Hazard doing anything was around 20 years ago, so it’s not even a given from her perspective that he’s still doing the starstone stuff; all he’s really said was he’s been experimenting with tain energy.
Logic aside, Jo’s not exactly at her sharpest right now. Hazard’s purposely getting her riled up and in addition to being extremely manipulative already, being married to her for Some Years kind of gives you the cheat codes to someone’s psyche. She hasn’t been close to thinking straight since she heard his voice, and panicked rage isn’t helping
And, whatever they’re both saying out loud, they really really don’t want to have to fight each other. We can assume from what we’ve seen they’re both some kind of immortal and they’re both extremely strong, so any serious fight between them would be very nasty. Hazard’s resigned to his decisions but as much as she says otherwise, Jocasta still wants to believe there’s a scenario that doesn’t end with her killing him over all this. She knows Hazard pretty well too, and on some level she’s trying to wait out the conversation before she does anything.
Unfortunately, updating one page at a time isn’t the ideal method and does lead to problems like this sometimes. Please always feel free to ask anything you’d like, but if something ever seems off like this try to keep in mind we’re not done yet. Most everything important WILL get an explanation and we’ve still got a lot of story to tell! I’m really thankful you guys always put so much thought into my work, hopefully you’ll find it’ll be worth your efforts as more stuff builds up =)
