Three pages, each one with emotion, humour and information. I would say you’re at the peak of your art, but you keep improving, so I’ll just keep quiet and go on reading.
And Ulrich just made me fall off my chair laughing.
Aria
Thank you so much <3
Sage
maggie?
Aria
Maggie!
Sage
so the gray one on page 413 probably isn’t maggie?
Lepidolite Mica
All caps and no punctuation is my favorite kind of text; it conveys exactly the level of abject panic that it’s supposed to, every single time.
Aria
Yeah! It’s a real specific sort of urgency, I like it a lot haha
I know we have to wait for them a while, but these multi-page updates are really worth waiting for, there’s just SO MUCH here to deal with.
My favourite thing? Raven looking unbelievably grouchy, but sucking from a pink curly straw. It’s just the best.
WAIT
SO
….Man do I feel silly.
Did they swap stylists or something?
Aria
Their styles were pretty similar to begin with, they both liked big silly hats and vests haha. Crow was wearing this same hat here!
Super Exclusive Insider Info: There were supposed to be character cards with really clear images for these four put up with these pages, but I was too exhausted and behind schedule to get them done on time hhh. They’re still coming, maybe if we’re all real hopeful I’ll get them done at the end of this chapter
Aria
man though, an old photo of gideon with his arm around jocasta like that would imply a whole truckload of other bullshit wouldn’t it lmao
Ah, no, not the names for me. At first sight I just meant it was Raven because he looks, you know, not really happy. And then I saw the golden eyes and remembered that the picture was very very old. People change, don’t they.
Aria
For sure! I also draw characters in different outfits and hair styles and stuf at different times in their lives, since that’s how uh. People work haah. I don’t mind clarifying stuff like that at all~
also yeah this piece of paper is well over a century old at this point. Raven took very good care of it
But where is Rook? I infered she had teleported herself to her father but she’s not there… And how come Raven didn’t have a word for her before dying…
Aria
I was wondering if anyone would ask about this! I went back and forth literally up til like last week over whether or not to have him bring her up in this scene, and the reasons I decided not to probably take way too much understanding of Raven as a character than should be necessary for it to make sense. I didn’t just forget tho, I promise~ Raven obviously loved Rook a lot and it would make sense for a loving parent to like, give a shit about what’s going to happen to their kid if the parent is dying.
Raven having nothing to say about her here is probably a combination of a few different things. Seeing as they’re both basically self-aware villains, it’s a fair assumption that they soooorta plan for disaster? Especially with Raven’s history. They’re involved in dangerous things and it’s always a possibility that it could go wrong. Training Rook to use magic and be as tough as she is was Raven’s way of making sure his kid would be able to take care of herself if anything ever happened to him, which is also probably why he didn’t seem to mind too much thinking that Ulrich was probably confronting her while Phineas was fighting him. He could still tell that Rook was alive, so he wasn’t terribly concerned about her getting into a fight. Once he was to the point he was dying, he sensed her leave the ship, which meant she had removed herself from the danger and was, presumably, somewhere safe. She was taken care of as well as she could be at the moment.
Additionally, he was not at all in his right mind by the time this chapter took place. At this point there’s not a lot of Raven left, and after Phineas takes the star and he starts to die his mental faculties go too, what with the hallucinating and all. It’s probably kinda bad to say, but Raven had a lot of other stuff on his mind at the time, and Rook just wasn’t something he thought to address to Phineas while all this Gideon stuff was being hashed out. Most decent parents probably would have been going nuts over their kid at this point, but a decent parent wouldn’t have dedicated their life to killing another person, made the conscious decision to kill themself, and leave their kid high and dry in the first place, so.
Ok, that’s more or less what I thought, good to have your confirmation though. I never doubted him as a parent… And now I wonder even more where she did go.

Crow, it’s a party. You could try looking like you’re having fun. (You’ve got this expression that almost looks partly annoyed and/or confused, but no hint of amusement despite the very silly straw and being the only one with a hat on (and with that context the hat manages to make you look more comical, you look really silly and the deadpan expression just makes it funnier in a weird manner).
Ulrich, your reaction to this is very funny and all (especially that last panel…panic Ulrich is hilarious Ulrich (JUST STARING AT IT MAKES ME LAUGH HARDER (I can’t even look away PLEASE HELP))), but…in the (maybe) immortal words of Ford Prefect: don’t panic! (Preferably written in large, friendly letters, or said with a reassuring smile.) Also, this is pretty much what she came for, and it falling apart is probably related to the owner leaving it to Phin as….windfall. Plus, you know, this way, it really will be Phin’s ship, instead of just…windfall.
Man, Raven might’ve been looking relatively spry so far, but that first panel….he’s showing his age. Really going for the sympathy there, aren’t you…(while I admit he wasn’t exactly only condemned thus far, his last few pages really seemed like a sad note for him).
Also, he just….”fizzled out”, didn’t he? Nothing left but dust, ash, and his clothes? (Is there a body left, or is that just the spirit/soul/nonphysical stuff that’s wisping away as smoke? If they delivered what was left to Jo for her to bury (assuming they did that), I suspect it would have the same solemnity….no matter what was left behind.)
Aria
Nope, no body or ashes. Fizzled out is a good way to put it I think
Sandman366
Stole it from the Raven/Jo conversation from earlier. Seemed appropriate.

Goodbye Raven. This page is really screwing with me cause part of me want to scream “HOLY SHIT IT’S MAGGIE HERE’S A TEN PAGE ESSAY ON WHY CROW GIDEON IS A DICK” and the other part is feeling sad that he had to go this way, screwed over by an uncaring god and then thinking about what Phin is going to have to tell Jocasta…
