Ulrich you negative mushroom, stop getting jealous of the stone ๐
There are many good Phin faces here, can’t wait to see what manner of monstrosity her enthusiasm creates. I can’t help but think of Ed’s “style” applying to all his alchemy in FMA and how something similar may happen here.
Aria
We’ll see!
Wereael
is that rabbit taking the whistle out of phin’s pocket, or putting it back in?
Ulrich doesn’t seem very adjusted to this magical business just yet, hee.
Aria
Taking it out!! Can’t just leave that stuff floating around out there
although i realized after i scripted this that it’s extremely illogical that phin stuck it back in her pocket as they were falling down, or even managed to think of it after landing on Happiness. I didn’t think it was worth screentime to invent a way around this tho so we’re all gonna assume she just held onto it reeeal tight

That or she just put it back in her pocket while the ship was falling apart.
So… a little baffled – the old ship died with Raven? Is this the same heart, or a new one?
Or are the answers to these basically “tune in next week for the continuing adventures of Phineas Kidd and Ulrich the Grump”?
Gaisa
Perhaps the original ship dissipated because it was an amalgamation of the star stone’s power and thought made physical, combined with Hazards “bond and will” to the stone (or some other element created through the stone and his bond). Hazard’s failing condition was why the ship was chaotic, and his eventual death broke the bond, so the will that held it all together died with him. No Hazard, no ship. Phin gets a clean slate ๐
Aria
Exactly! It’s reassuring seeing people able to explain this stuff so well haha.
For further clarification, there was precedent for a ship’s heart being repurposed when we learned Artemis used to be Gideon’s ship. Artemis’ situation is also somewhat different from normal, since most ship hearts are lobotomized before they’re used to make ships. This heart still has a will of his own, and once Hazard died and his power over it disappeared, Artemis was very keen to buck off this old junk he didn’t want to be carrying in the first place.
Gaisa
I thought so, I just chose to pose my response as a “perhaps” to cover me ass in case I was woefully mistaken ๐
Carcharadon
Ah ha, I’d forgotten that Artemis had already been the heart of more than one ship before, that clears things up completely then.
Aria
Gaisa’s got it! This is the same heart Phineas was speaking to in the melty hallway leading to Hazard’s room.
(but also, yes, we’ll talk about this a little bit more in the next several pages)
Ellie is so enthusiastic! I can’t wait to see next pages. And I want to hear Artemis again.
Ah, and also, wondering: does Phineas really need Ellie’s help to make her ship, or does it only make the process easier? (And where/why/how did Ellie learn that?)
Aria
Generally nah, you don’t need a guardian to make ships (although if you hang around a place that deals with stone long enough you’ll very likely run across one sooner or later). This situation is just a bit different since Artemis is still a conscious being! You technically don’t even need a guardian for that either but in this case it’s nice to have someone around to explain things~

Bunny is slick, taking his whistle back without Phin noticing. (Too busy with silent visible squee. (Though that “Ship Get” is even funnier.)
And Phin looks like pure determination (or is that just “DO WANT”?) in panel 6, not even bothering to leave a smile on her face. (Especially odd considering how enthusiastic I’d think she would be right then.)
(Muppet Phin can turn Ulrich into a muppet too, but Ellie turns Ulrich into a Mushroom…(or a puppet with a very long neck.) No word on who’s method is more effective.)
Actually, Ulrich looks rather….business-like in panel 3. Remarkably so. Considering his usual….showmanship, somewhat impressive for him.
(Anyway, this page almost feels like a confirmation that Ellie’s going with them and just hasn’t admitted it yet. Especially given the previous one.)
