I know it might be weird to fixate on. Especially since I was talking about how Agatha’s and Monty’s relationship might be more complicated than what it appeared to be ages ago. But I really do like Ulric’s and Phineas’s dynamic and how he grounds her alot. I also love how Phineas is whole heartedly coping up to her faults. I believe a lotta folks were talking about how trauma seems to exist in a vacuum after the fall out of a fight in fiction. Which is true and it’s relieving to see that isn’t the case here. But I like that Phineas and Co aren’t ignoring her faults for like X seasons after being called out for it and then acting like it’s a big thing they’ve been dealing with forever until the climax of some arc. We might not see results from her effort to get better in these ways for a while yet. But I feel like I can reasonably put my faith in you to display these growing pains and not just use them as a tool to be brought when the narrative needs it.

aaa thank you! your faith in me is appreciated haha.
Yeah, I’ve always had a problem with stories (One Piece, as usual) where we bring up weird gaps in a protag’s perspective, or things that could present a real problem in the plot and everyone goes “hm wow that IS a problem” then continue to not have consequences or deal with it in any way. Then even if it DOES come up we never reeeeally want to make it messy or difficult to resolve our heroes’ morality, because that would be 2 hard for our poor audience uwu
I specifically set out with the intention of making Phineas, and hopefully the rest of the crew, a little more emotionally literate than that because I figure if I want those things out of stories SOMEBODY else must too. it might get weird later on! maybe people don’t write like this because it logistically gets harder to resolve, idk. but i respect readers to be able to decide how they feel about characters without me spoonfeeding y’all goofus and gallant comic strips, so i think it’s worth the attempt. and also i’d get hella bored writing morality parables lmao

I think Writers tend to avoid things Like that because it leaves morality abigious. Which means people could come to the Conclusion that the protag is the bad guy. Which isn’t what most people want Or are writing for. Since they want a cleam cut story on it’s a cash grab. Which is why I like KC, Phin has good intentions and well meaning dreams. But ultimately thats all they are, She’s not a hero. she’s Just a Person with a dream. It’ll be interesting to see Where she goes without the baggage of having to be the “good guy.”

Phin’s New Daily Reminder to listen to people and make sure you’re on the same page with them, not just that they’re on the same page with you……
(…..can almost hear the hint of snark in Ulrich’s lines this page….all of his lines, actually….)
PS: Monty you’re not really doing any better here than you were a page ago….

It’s been mentioned before but man Phineas’ emotional intelligence is truly powerful. It’s just that that laser focus can do as much harm as good… maybe this will help with that some.
