I don’t think Hazard pulled this off with like, power of will the way a commander would, if phin was resistant because her conciousness operates on different planes, then maybe Hazard bypassed haturs ability by moving his conciousness to a different plane entirely; making him undetectable. And the light is the portal to that other plane? He’s probably keeping it in the place walkers go, (he asked Jocasta for a tour). ‘cept he messed up and now has a hole in his face.
