I got excited and sent out all the summer postcards a bit early, so if you’re on that list keep an eye out for yours! If you get your pledge in before July 1st you can still get one for yourself, there’s more info on the New And Improved support page.

The next update is seven pages and I will get it to you as quick as I can, the tentative date is July 18th but that’s assuming I hit all my marks and nothing else comes up, so keep an eye on this space for changes just in case. Thanks for being so patient while things have slowed down for the finale, I really hope y’all like how the rest of this chapter goes.

Yeah, good luck with Agatha killing Phineas. I think Phineas is actually stronger than her but is holding back because she wants to try and save her.

Also, every time Goddard speaks I think more about “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas” and his deep misunderstanding of it.

  I had to look that one up! I’m kinda bummed I didn’t know about it before I wrote this arc, I love doing vague parallels to old fables and stuff like that and this one would have been neat to have in my notes somewhere. Ah well

Briefly. Briefly did Monty actually have a chance at convincing me – and then he had to intend to off Phin.

The thing is that I think Monty and Ulrich are two sides of the same coin. They both see society as a great machine and they both see what that machine has to do in order to function properly. The problem is that Monty has embraced this, gladly becoming the flywheel in his machine. That’s why he sees Ulrich as this fantastic product of society. Meanwhile, Ulrich… well, he doesn’t strike me as one enamored with society. In fact, it kinda seems that the more Monty brings up his past, the more negative things we see there.

And then at the end, Monty has to go talking about offing Phin. I sense that an ass-whooping of flamboyant proportions is imminent.

The closest thing we’ve gotten to a definitive answer about Ulrich is some~~one~~thing that ripped his plans straight out of his head and said that Phin was more than just a pawn to him: “she’s your queen“. He also pretty much said as much before they left Last Chance….he’s using her, and as long as he gets what he wants, he doesn’t care about his own fate. Phin as “compost” hardly sounds “according to plan”.

Monty, the most useful thing you can do for yourself is just give up. Ulrich’s not leaving politely without Phineas in good shape, and the only way Phineas is leaving at all is either with Agatha free from your control…..or dead.

So, yeah. You might wish you’d found a paper trail before – even a nonexistent one – to have any idea what he’s up to now, because you can’t read the showman. The showman shows what he wants to, and plays his audience for fools. They even pay him for it. His victims, on the other hand….they just pay for it. >:D

    Actually I had just done a re-read because I couldn’t find Bel’s name for another recent comment. (Well, started looking for it, then just did a full re-read anyway ‘cuz it’s good stuff, found name, then didn’t care and just kept going. :P)

Oh hell I never realized that was Bel in panel 2, wasn’t it? Not sure why I always just glossed right over that before.
But that explains why the previous page highlights so clearly Bel’s eyes being very different – one of them’s artificial, isn’t it? And the…whatever that is on Bel’s cheek. The fish-scale looking thing.
