Oh man, this is right here is why I know you are a good writer! Your main characters have real flaws. And you have Phineas one of the worst one in my opinion. She is self righteous. While one hand, it’s a trait I loath and annoys me more than anything to see, it’s going to be interesting to see what it leads her to do and go, and whether she overcomes it.

Remarkably lifelike, hm. Sentient machines don’t suffer any discrimination, but what’s the line they draw between sentience and non-sentience? Something’s not quite right

  Or then again, maybe not.

  Hmm… didn’t say they don’t suffer any discrimination, just no more than any other species. It could be that this place is massively speciest (or whatever the bigot term would be, as xenophobic wouldn’t quite fit right), they are just bigoted towards every species and not just AIs.

        No consolation needed (though I am beginning to think its intentional just to successfully keep me on the edge of my seat). I love the story and the depth it has. Also, I like that both main characters have completely different knowledge and experience sets so there is a natural way to explain things to the audience without it feeling like exposition just for the audience’s sake.

        Thank you! I knew KC’s world would be one of those where we do just have to stop and explain things sometimes, so I do make an effort to at least frame it in a way that makes it feel more natural. I’m glad it’s working a little bit haha
