HEY UHH THE BREAK WAS PRODUCTIVE SO VOLUME 2 PREORDERS ARE HAPPENING NOW, probably until around the 20th! My thoughts in response to the hover text: Being ace isn’t really the kind of thing that lends itself to coming up often though. Speaking as one, I would point out that everyone else waves their own flag, so to speak, every time they’re either in a relationship, or wanting one. Relationships are what drive that conversation in the first place – and we just don’t have them, so it doesn’t come up. In my case I fall more in the gray zone, so there’s been a few times I’ve mentioned it – but to be fair, it was always in relation to someone else talking about their current or desired non-ace relationship.

On top of which, Ulrich just isn’t the kind of person to be open, unless or until it suits his purposes. He is quintessentially the actor for whom all of life is a stage, after all.

Anyways, it was interesting to think through all that, thought I’d share here.

  Yeah that’s basically my thoughts too! There are a few orientations that are more difficult to bring up naturally in the canon of a comic because they’re not always “apparent” in a concrete way, or it’s just not something that comes up in conversation to begin with. Especially with Ulrich, who doesn’t like to talk about himself for any reason ever.
  
  I do try really hard to confirm everybody’s Various Alignments at least once though. I don’t like to claim representation without having it explicitly stated somewhere in canon, you know? Even if I Word Of God it people will still argue that characters aren’t cishet so I like to have something solid for myself and other readers to point out. Also it feels a lil skeezy to claim that a bunch of my characters are queer without ever showing it, even if KC isn’t really the kind of comic that centers around romance enough for it to be a thing haha.
  
  I appreciate your thoughtful comment! For a comic written by an aggressively pan lady who is constantly thirsting after all her characters KC’s fanbase seems to have attracted a fair amount of ace folks, if the discord is anything to go by. You’re in good company 🙂

    Speaking of, I did love your pan flag variation. Laughed even harder when the thought of it being the “punsexual” flag occured to me, too. As a grey ace I tend to think of myself as pan-romantic, so an ace flag with a pan in there somewhere would be just perfect for me I think. Sexuality, romantic, and humor all in one go!

  Whilst I agree with a lot of what you said, being ace doesn’t necessarily mean not having or wanting relationships, at least not for a lot of ace people. I’m ace too, and even know a pair of happily married ace folk. Of course some people like yourself have a different experience and that’s totally valid too.
  
  Personally I’ve been surprised how often it has come up, just because of the amount of time people in general spend talking about their own sexuality, that they end up asking about mine.

    Yeah it’s come up for me too, me bringing it up in conversation, even. Not often, kinda rare, but it’s surprised me how applicable it can be when it has been. Speaking of surprise though, the more I’ve researched asexuality it’s been an endless surprise at how deep that rabbit hole goes. Sorry if it seemed as if I pigeon-holed it somewhat in my comment, that was unintentional – I’m well aware and even admire the wide variety of it.
